Wharfedale Locality Hospital
Wharfedale Locality Hospital was designed to replace the former accommodation and facilitate the delivery of clinically safe and effective healthcare services in Otley, England.
It is a 76-bed hospital, over an area of 9,500 m2, and serves the areas of Wharfedale and North Leeds.
A key objective of the Wharfedale Hospital project was to take advantage of the location and setting and to provide an attractive environment and a patient-friendly building for the local community.

The innovation
SPV General Manager Eilidh Paffett explained more about the development.
„The new facility consisted of a minor injuries department, endoscopy suite, outpatients department, physiotherapy department, pathology, radiology, and two operating theatres serving both the surgical and clinical wards.
„We worked closely with Leeds NHS Trust, in conjunction with BAM FM, to deliver a range of managed services within the hospital such as a fully-networked helpdesk, maintenance of all mechanical and electrical building services, specialist maintenance, e.g. standby generators, gas pipelines, pest control, and water treatment.

The solution
A range of design elements were implemented to ensure the new facility offered a welcoming and comfortable environment for patients and visitors.
„Features such as a bespoke design solution made good and appropriate use of natural light and ventilation combined with solar control. The team also created simple external and internal access and circulation, all of which is designed to reduce patient anxiety.
„Working in partnership with our clients is a key element of all our PPP work. The design was developed in close partnership with Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust during the preferred bidder stage and into the construction phase.
„The Trust was delighted with the final product, particularly the aesthetic and functional qualities of the finished building.“
