Bromsgrove Schools
The background
In 2000, an education review of schools in the Bromsgrove area in Worcestershire, England was conducted. The review identified a substantial gap in the quality of education facilities. Several schools were outdated, worn and no longer met the educational needs of modern-day students.
The solution proposed by Worcestershire County Council was to use a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contract to build 7 new schools – two High Schools, two Middle Schools and three First Schools – in the Bromsgrove area of Worcestershire, complete with community facilities on five sites.
In 2005, Invesis was awarded the PFI contract to design, build, finance and maintain the schools which cater for more than 4,180 pupils. By partnering with Invesis, Worcestershire County Council received an asset with first class learning environments that have transformed the learning experience for pupils and teachers.
Thanks to the improved facilities, teaching practices can be performed effectively through the use of modern technology, providing young people with the opportunity to receive a high-quality education.

Business value
Providing learning environments that are responsive to changes in demand for school places was key. Each of the schools have a future proof, bespoke design in response to the local communities’ educational needs and stakeholder requirements. Due to the positive relationships formed and the quality of the designs, a new benchmark was set on design excellence in PFI schools in Bromsgrove.
In line with its successful approach to education projects, Invesis is committed to cultivating an ongoing relationship with the local community. A Learning and Resources Coordinator was appointed to link the construction work on site to the school’s curriculum, creating a learning opportunity for students. The learning resource role has continued post construction, providing training for pupils who are interested in becoming a trades operative.
The schools have been operational since 2008 and are now an integral part of the communities they serve.
