N33 Assen-Zuidbroek
The background
The N33 is a 38-kilometer carriageway that connects the cities of Assen and Zuidbroek in the north of the Netherlands. The project involved upgrading an existing section of road into a dual carriageway, with two lanes in each direction, to improve traffic flow, increase road safety, and support economic growth in the region.
In 2012, Rijkswaterstaat awarded Invesis the PPP contract to design, build, finance and maintain the dual carriageway. Although the infrastructure project was not part a major road scheme, upgrading the section of road was crucial to reduce accident rates and to make overtaking less dangerous on the busy road.
Additionally, the N33 provides a vital link between the northern provinces of the Netherlands and the rest of the country. Meaning that the road plays a key role in improving the road network to ensure the efficient transportation of goods and services.

The N33 Assen-Zuidbroek carriageway, is one of four Invesis led projects that placed in last year’s Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB). GRESB is a globally recognised benchmark for assessing the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance of infrastructure assets worldwide.
The asset demonstrates a commitment to sustainability through the use of sustainable materials during construction and measures taken to protect surrounding biodiversity.
