PPP extension project German Federal Motorway A9 completed

BAM PPP, Germany, 08 September 2014 – On Friday 5th September Federal Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt officially opened the last section of the Federal Motorway 9 (Bundesautobahn 9 or A9).

The new road extension is part of the Trans-European Network (TEN) and involved the widening of the motorway from four to six lanes over a length of 19 kilometers, connecting Berlin and Munich via Leipzig and Nuremberg.

The project was delivered through a public-private partnership in cooperation with the Federal State and the Free State of Thuringia both represented by DEGES (German Unity motorway planning and construction department), and Via Gateway Thüringen as private partners. This PPP project is the first successful implementation of an availability model contract in Germany.

Via Gateway Thüringen plans, builds, finances, maintains and operates the A9 between the Lederhose junction and the border between Thuringia / Bavaria. The project company is owned by BAM PPP (50%) and VINCI Concessions (50%), both have extensive experience and expertise in PPP projects in the transport infrastructure sector. Via Gateway Thüringen awarded the construction activities to a joint venture consisting of VINCI subsidiary EUROVIA and BAM subsidiary Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau. Via Gateway Thüringen will operate 46.5 kilometers of the A9 for the next 20 years.
