Skibbereen, Co. Cork, 26 October 2018 – The new 900-pupil Skibbereen Community School in Co. Cork, built by leading contractors BAM, has been officially opened by an Irish Minister of State at the Department of Health, Jim Daly T.D.
At 10,500 m2, Skibbereen Community School is the largest and final school development in Ireland’s government-backed programme.
It boasts 26 classrooms, a lecture theatre, five laboratories, a library, two woodwork/construction rooms, an additional needs suite, and five outdoor ball courts.
Speaking at the opening, CEO of BAM Ireland Theo Cullinane said: “Skibbereen Community School is a fantastic state-of-the-art facility which will serve the local community long into the future. It allows for an additional 900 pupils to be educated in Co. Cork, all in a building that rivals any educational facility in the country. With better classrooms and equipment, this will enhance the learning experience for our youth while enabling teachers to provide the best possible education for students.”
