Bremervoerde Prison
The background
In 2010, the state of Lower Saxony, represented by the Ministry of Justice awarded Invesis the PPP contract to design, build, finance and maintain Bremervörde Prison. The state-of-the-art custodial facility was required to address overcrowding and to concentrate some of the state’s former prisons in one central location near the town of Bremervörde.
At the time, Bremervörde a town in the north of the district of Rotenburg in Lower Saxony, Germany, had a population of around 19,000 inhabitants. By situating the prison near the town’s centre, new jobs have been created throughout the construction and operational phase which has aided the development of the local economy.
The construction of Bremervörde Prison was a significant investment for the state of Lower Saxony, as the facilities substantially improved the conditions for prisoners and provided a safer and more secure environment for both staff and inmates.
