Today, 7 April 2025 we are thrilled to announce the official opening of the Silvertown Tunnel in East London. A landmark and most needed piece of infrastructure crossing the River Thames and connecting Silvertown to the Greenwich Peninsula. The 1.4km tunnel will provide a vital new transport link designed to alleviate congestion at the nearby Blackwall Tunnel and to improve journey times for road users.
Since the award of the contract in 2019 by Transport for London (TfL), Invesis has been a proud member of the Riverlinx project company, collaborating with our partners Cintra (Ferrovial Group), Aberdeen Investments and South Korean contractor and investor – SK E&C in the financing and the design, build and maintenance of this project for a 25 year period.
The Silvertown tunnel developed under the public-private-partnership model, on time, on budget and to the highest standards, is a clear demonstration of how the private sector can contribute to delivering complex public infrastructure in a sustainable, innovative and efficient way.
Working collaboratively and despite the exceptionally difficult events, TfL, Invesis and their Riverlink SPV partners and the exceptional international Construction Joint Venture formed by BAM Nuttall, Ferrovial Construction and SK Ecoplant, can be proud of being part of a legacy for the East Londoners.
At the forefront of delivering this tunnel has been a number of Invesis’ experts, including Larry Mackey, Invesis’ Project Director, who served as Quality Director for the Riverlinx consortium, our operational finance and corporate counsel teams, as well as our Origination team – involved during the tender phase.
Looking Ahead
The opening of the Silvertown Tunnel marks a significant achievement for TfL, Invesis, our Riverlinx partners, and all stakeholders involved. It stands as a testament to what can be accomplished through collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to enhancing infrastructure for the benefit of the community.
The successful completion of the Silvertown Tunnel exemplifies the strength and potential of public-private partnerships in delivering complex infrastructure projects.
As we look to the future, Invesis continues to lead in shaping sustainable infrastructure through strong partnerships and innovative delivery models—demonstrating the lasting value we bring to communities and clients across our priority markets.
